What to pack for an around the world trip – Clothes Edition

Here is our around the world clothes edition 👕⁣ We have wanted to take a picture of all our things but we haven’t found a place with proper floor space (or maybe we are just lazy 😁). So here the list of all the clothes we are carrying in our backpacks. Ladies first 😎⁣

Laura

  • 7 x t-shirt
  • 2 x long sleeve
  • 1 x short sleeve top
  • 2 x shorts
  • 3 x trousers
  • 2 x midi-dress
  • a cardigan
  • a maxi dress
  • a bikini set
  • a jacket
  • a big scarf
  • a multi-use headwear
  • a pair of flip-flops & sneakers
  • a disposable rain poncho
  • + socks & underwear⁣
Laura’s favorite travel outfit

Risto

  • 5 x t-shirt
  • 2 x long sleeve
  • 2 x shorts
  • 2 x trousers
  • swim shorts
  • a shirt
  • ⁣a jacket
  • ⁣a beanie
  • a big scarf
  • a pair of flip-flops & sneakers
  • a disposable rain coat
  • + socks & underwear⁣
Risto loves wearing these clothes when travelling – minus the sneakers & socks, flip flops are better 🙂

Any regrets?

The clothes are certainly not most fashionable, nor even most practical. Yet we are managing with them quite well, and it’s rare that we would miss any other piece from our old wardrobe. Some of the items are used almost daily, like the flip-flops by Crocs, and some are excess and we are not using them almost at all. Like who needs socks anyway?⁣

What have/would you pack for a long trip? Any secret favorites?⁣

    Hey there,

that’s a really small list compared to what we packed for our RTW trip some years ago.

After some time on the road we actually realized, that we had many things too much on the list.

And finally we came up with the rule-of-thumb we use since then when traveling: It should be
    * enough for 2 weeks (then you will anyhow wash somewhere)
    * “layer-able” (ie be able to worn over each other, as it sometimes got quite cold)
    * no “single-use” items (ie no too specialized clothes, or things you can buy/ rent somewhere when only needed for something special, eg sleeping bag)

We will follow you on FB or Insta…really like your pictures 🙂

Hi there Thorsten. Thanks a lot for the feedback and tips:
    1. The two week rule is great, maybe even one week rule.
    2. Layering is a must, this is where we have some problems. We just don’t have enough warm clothes and have been freezing in laughable high temperatures 😃
    3. The single-use rule is a must as well. Although, it really doesn’t matter much, how you look like when travelling, as nobody is there to tell whether Risto looks silly today. So that Borat swimwear is just fine🤣

Followed you guys back on Insta.

    BR,
    Risto & Laura
